Man arrested for threatening bus driver with Samurai-style sword

CAMBRIDGE – A man carrying a
Samurai-style sword threatened a Grand River Transit (GRT) bus driver’s
life on Saturday afternoon (July 12), police say.

A 19-year-old Cambridge man is charged with uttering threats to cause death and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

According to police, the man got on a bus at the Ainslie Street terminal
at about 3:20 p.m. and threatened to stab the driver, as he held a
sword.

“He was initially asked to leave the bus because he was using obscene
language,” Olaf Heinzel, Waterloo Regional Police public affairs
co-ordinator, said of the suspect, noting the threats followed.

GRT security and police were then called.

The man was arrested without incident, at the bus terminal. No injuries were reported
