Karkala: In a tragic incident, two persons lost their lives when the
bike they were riding was slammed by an incoming bus, near Durga High
School, Muroor Hirgana here on Friday June 6 night.
According to sources, the deceased, identified as Srinivas Acharya (42)
and Sharath Nayak (25), both residents of Hirgana, were riding back home
from Karkala town, when a private bus coming from the opposite
direction and trying to overtake another vehicle, slammed into them.
Srinivas Acharya was thrown about 30 feet and Sharath Nayak about 20
feet away from the accident spot. Both breathed their last on the spot,
it is learnt. The impact was such that the bike was stuck under the
wheels of the bus.
A large number of people had gathered on the spot, however, the bus
driver and conductor fled the scene. The police also arrived to control
the situation.
The bodies were shifted to Karkala taluk hospital for post mortem.
A case has been registered.
