Child dragged by school bus » Updates » New Castle News
NEW CASTLE — A child suffered minor injuries when her backpack was caught in a school bus door Thursday.
Police said the 8-year-old girl was dragged by the bus in the Perry Township incident.
State police said the incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. at the intersection of Blue Jay Avenue and Raymond Street.
According to police, a school bus operated by Christine Lee Sabatino, 46, of Ellwood City was traveling west on Blue Jay Avenue and had stopped at the intersection to let off students.
The girl got off the bus and when the driver closed the door, it caught her backpack.
Police said the driver did not see the girl had been caught and turned south onto Raymond Street, then west onto Lyndhurst Lane. When the bus stopped in the 500 block of Lyndhurst Avenue, the driver saw the girl.
The girl was treated at the scene for what were described as minor injuries. The police report did not indicate the distance the bus had traveled while the child was caught.
Police said the incident is still under investigation.
