The school bus tragedy | Business Recorder

The scenes from last Wednesday's accident on the Nawabshah-Qazi Ahmad link road were unbearable for the weak-hearted. At least 19 children, ten girls and nine boys - all aged between 10 and 16 - two teachers and the driver of their van, were killed. Having performed well at a quiz competition at a public hall the children were happily on their way back to school when the van they were riding in collided head-on with a dumper truck which had suddenly appeared on the road and slammed into the van. At least 17 people, 14 children and two teachers as well as their driver, died on the spot while 21 others were injured, four of them critically. The truck driver escaped, which could mean he was at fault. It will be a while before the facts are established and the reason for the accident pinned down.
