Bus carrying 40 passengers catches fire in Norwalk, no injuries reported

NORWALK - A tour bus with 40 passengers on board caught fire on the
605 Freeway in Norwalk, but the driver pulled off the freeway into a
donut shop parking lot where Los Angeles County firefighters put out the
flames, authorities said Sunday.

The bus fire was reported at 10 p.m. Saturday on the southbound 605 Freeway at Imperial Highway, said Los Angeles County Fire

Department Dispatch Supervisor Ed Pickett.

Firefighters
responded to the ABC Donuts parking lot in the 10600 block of East
Imperial Highway and put out the fire, Pickett said. There were no
injuries.

There were 40 passengers on the bus, said Los Angeles County
Sheriff’s Lt. Cynthia McDaniel. Mechanical failure was the reported
cause of the fire, she said.

A news videographer at the scene said
passengers complained about fumes on the trip from Compton to a
Pasadena theater and were promised a replacement bus for the return
trip, which they did not get.
