Many killed in India bus accident - News - Al Jazeera English
At least 10 people have been killed and 35 injured after a tourist bus en route to the western state of Gujarat fell off a bridge on a highway in neighbouring Maharashtra state.

Compounding the accident, the container from a passing truck dislodged itself at the same spot and fell on top of the fallen bus, reports said.

The accident late on Monday night occurred when the bus driver lost control while negotiating a sharp curve on a stretch between Pune city and Satara town in Maharashtra state, reports said on Tuesday.

The bus overturned and fell of the bridge near the Khambatki Ghat, a forested area.

At least five other vehicles stopped by to rescue the passengers in the bus. They parked their vehicles on the side of the road.

Owing to the steep curve, the parked vehicles were apparently not visible to an approaching container truck. The truck crashed into the line of parked vehicles causing a pile-up, reports said. All the parked vehicles were severely damaged, reports said.

To make matters worse, the container fell off on to the bus that had landed on a trench by the side of the bridge.

In December, nine people were killed when the container on a truck got dislodged and fell on their tempo at the same spot.
