Chapel Hill Transit drivers were recognized at the Annual Triangle Commuter Awards ceremony for their hard work and extensive training.
Chapel Hill Town Council member Ed Harrison accepted the Golden Bus Award on behalf of all Chapel Hill Transit Drivers. They’ve been dubbed the best transit drivers in the region.
The June 23 ceremony, sponsored by GoTriangle and SmartCommute@rtp, recognized businesses, commuters and university departments that excel in promoting and using alternative transportation, including public transit.
The results of the eighth SmartCommute Challenge were also announced at the event. Triangle residents rose to the occasion with over 10,000 commuters pledging to use alternative transportation at least once in a six-week period. Residents saved more than 84,300 gallons of gas and drove nearly 239,000 fewer miles.
