Tough weekend for transit workers with two attacked and one spat upon

The holiday weekend wasn’t so festive for some transit workers, with two employees getting attacked by riders and another being spat upon.

Just before midnight Sunday, Tareque Ahmed, 35, was starting his shift at the 36th Street station on the R line in Long Island City when he saw a couple fighting on the mezzanine, according to police. The man allegedly hit his girlfriend, prompting Ahmed to snap a photo of the attacker and yell at another clerk to call police. The assailant then flew into a rage and pummeled the Queens man, police said.

“He was punching me and kicking me,” said Ahmed, while getting examined at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital yesterday. “I feel pain. My eye is red.”

The couple fled the station, and police were still hunting for the alleged attacker Monday, a NYPD spokesman said.

Meanwhile, a rider standing on the northbound platform of the 14th Street station in Manhattan hit a train conductor in the face around 10:30 a.m. Sunday, according to transit reports. And on Sunday evening, a train employee was spat upon for unknown reasons as the No. 3 train was pulling away from the 14th Street station, the reports show. Southbound service was delayed while the soiled worker was cleaned up.

It was unclear by press time if the spitter was apprehended.
