Hospital for North Shields laser pen bus driver

A bus driver has received treatment in hospital after a laser pen was flashed in his eyes while driving a passenger service in North Shields.

It happened on Station Road in Percy Main on Saturday at 2150 BST.

Police said the 35-year-old was driving the number 19 Veolia Transport bus when two teenagers aged about 16, shone a green laser pen in his eyes.

The driver safely stopped the bus and called for assistance. He was treated in hospital for blurred vision.

Police have increased patrols in the area.
