GREYHOUND

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A Greyhound Passenger Bus had just departed the Greyhound Terminal at 9:30 a.m. Saturday when the brakes of the bus failed, according to Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).

The bus was southbound in the 1300 block of south Nevada Avenue, attempting to turn onto the southbound on-ramp of Interstate 25 when the brakes failed.

The driver swerved to avoid colliding with a passenger car but struck a curb, damaging the right front wheel of the bus. The collision also caused several passengers to be thrown from their seats which caused minor injuries to eight passengers.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) responded and treated the passenger of which two were transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital Central for treatment.

The remaining passengers and their baggage were transported from the scene by ambulance, CSFD and CSPD back to the Greyhound Terminal to await a backup bus.

The original bus was enroute from Colorado Springs to Dallas, Texas at the time of the accident.

The bus did cause minor damage to a second vehicle as it slowed to a stop but the driver of the second vehicle was not injured.
