RRTA bus shears pole, power cut to 2 traffic lights

A Red Rose Transit Authority Access bus hit a telephone pole in the 1800 block of Lincoln Highway East Saturday afternoon, downing wires, knocking out power to two traffic lights and snarling traffic for more than an hour.

The eastbound bus hit an oncoming vehicle — which then struck a parked, occupied vehicle — before leaving the roadway and shearing the pole in half at about 1:52 p.m., East Lampeter Township police said.

The driver of the second vehicle was taken to Lancaster General Hospital for evaluation.

The crash knocked out power to the traffic lights at Greenfield Road and Strasburg Pike, East Lampeter Township police Sgt. Brian Cloonan said. "We were directing traffic for an hour, hour and a half."

No passengers were on the bus, township Officer Mike Redden said.

ACCIDENTS:
State police said a vehicle driven by Ruth H. Graver, 83, Holtwood, struck the rear of a vehicle driven by Jere N. Kleinhans, 58, no address given, when Kleinhans slowed to turn from Route 372 onto Ann Place Road, East Drumore Township, Friday. Graver's vehicle also struck a utility pole. Police said Graver was taken to Lancaster General Hospital with moderate injuries.

•Vera Black, 68, New Holland, was hospitalized after a two-car crash at 5:40 p.m. Wednesday on West Broad Street at North Hoover Avenue, New Holland police said.

Black's vehicle collided with a vehicle driven by Bernice Dietrich, 85, Ephrata, after Dietrich pulled into her path, police said.

Dietrich was cited for a stop sign violation.

•Shirley Ann Read, 59, Biglerville, was cited with a traffic violation after a crash at 5:11 p.m. Thursday in the 100 block of South Hoover Avenue, New Holland police said.

Read exited a parking lot and drove into the side of a vehicle operated by Troy G. Wojcik, 20, Narvon, police said. The Wojcik vehicle then struck a parked vehicle.

•Two children and two women received minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to Lancaster General Hospital after a two-vehicle wreck at 1:44 p.m. Friday in the 6100 block of White Oak Road and Christiana Pike, Sadsbury Township, state police said. Traffic was blocked for about an hour. No further information was available Saturday.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF:
A vandal with a rock scratched the entire driver's side length of a car June 16 in the 400 block of Shultz Road. Manor Township police said an arrest is expected soon.

•Estimated damage of $250 was reported after an attempted car break-in overnight Wednesday in the 100 block of Abbeyville Road, Manheim Township police said. The lock and doorframe of a 1993 Oldsmobile were damaged while the car was parked at ManorCare, police said.

•A vehicle belonging to an East Earl Township resident was scratched on the passenger's side with a key during the late night hours Friday, New Holland police said. The vehicle was parked at Shooter's Crossing, 88 Diller Ave., police said.

DUI:
Gregory A. Stuller, 52, of the 900 block of Fourth Avenue, Steelton, has been charged with DUI as the result of an April 25 traffic accident at River and Anderson Ferry roads, East Donegal Township, where his vehicle struck the rear of another car, Susquehanna Regional Police said.

•Clara Behmer, 48, New Providence, was taken into custody for DUI Thursday after an 11:20 p.m. crash on Route 272 at School House Road, Providence Township, state police said.

Behmer turned her southbound vehicle in front of a truck driven by Samuel Polys, 32, Cogan Station, police said.

Police said DUI and traffic charges were to be filed.

•Jason Beall, 30, Elkton, Md., was charged with DUI and other offenses after a 6:05 p.m. accident Thursday in Little Britain Township, state police said.

Beall was eastbound on Nottingham Road when his vehicle went out of control, veered off the road, rolled up an embankment and overturned after striking a large tree, police said.

Beall suffered a minor injury, police said.

•Trisha Ann Wiggins, 28, Manheim, was stopped for speeding at 1:17 a.m. Saturday on Manor Avenue, Millersville Borough police said.

She was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol after she was given a blood alcohol test at the borough police department, police said; charges are to be filed.

THEFTS:
A juvenile was charged with theft after taking $1,400 worth of electronics from a home in the 100 block of North Second Street in Bainbridge, Conoy Township, May 14. The juvenile was referred to Lancaster County juvenile authorities. The items were later recovered, Susquehanna Regional Police said.

•Jared Andres Harsh, 28, of the 7900 block of Elizabethtown Road, Elizabethtown, used a vehicle without consent of the owner and removed items valued at $125 May 13 in the 400 block of West Prospect Avenue, Marietta, Susquehanna Regional Police said.

•A GPS unit, loose change and cell phone charger were stolen from a Sun Pipeline work vehicle parked in the 1300 block of Spencer Avenue overnight Wednesday, Manheim Township police said. The loss to the Reading-based company was about $210. There were no signs of forced entry.

•Power tools and collectible coins worth about $2,500 were stolen from a workshop in a residential garage in the 100 block of Snavely Road, Elizabeth Township, between Monday and Friday, state police at Ephrata said.

The burglar entered through a rear window and left through the side door, according to police.

ATTEMPTED THEFT:
An alarm scared away a would-be burglar who had entered Singing Spring Foods, 810 Vintage Road, Christiana, through an unlocked window at 11 p.m. Wednesday, state police said.

WARRANT:
New Holland police served an underage drinking warrant Wednesday on Jerome Mclemore, 20, of the 800 block of Narvon Road, Salisbury Township. Mclemore was arrested last October and failed to pay his fine, police said; he was released after paying money on the fine.
