State News Briefs: Driver in serious condition after hitting school bus in Milwaukee

A driver was fighting for his life after he suffered a medical condition and his van plowed into a school bus in Milwaukee Tuesday.

The 50-year-old van driver was hospitalized in critical condition at last word. Three children on the bus were also sent to a hospital, but school officials said the kids escaped with bumps-and-scratches. The accident happened about 7:30 a.m. on Milwaukee’s south side. Police said the van driver crossed a median, hit several signs, and collided with a bus taking nine kids to the Fernwood Montessori School. The bus driver was also reported to have minor injuries.
