2 hurt after brick thrown from overpass hits bus

Two women were hospitalized after a brick was thrown from a South Side overpass, smashing a CTA bus window and striking one of the women in the head Friday evening on Lake Shore Drive.

The incident happened at 5:30 p.m. on Lake Shore Drive near 39th. The brick was thrown from the Oakwood Boulevard overpass, shattering a window on the X28 Stony Island Express, which was traveling south on Lake Shore Drive, authorities said.

A 60-year-old woman was struck in the head, Prairie District Lt. Mark Adduci said. A 40-year-old woman was also injured when glass fragments hit her face, he said.

The woman struck in the head was conscious when paramedics arrived, police said.

She was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was listed in "stable'' condition Friday night, Adduci said. The other woman was taken to University of Chicago Hospital in good condition, Fire Department officials.

Police did not have a description of the offender, and it was unclear whether anyone witnessed the brick being thrown, Adduci said.
