Evansville man waiting for bus attacked by two dogs

— An Evansville man who had just left his house in the 500 block of East Gum Street and was waiting to catch a city bus was attacked by two pit bulls Thursday morning, according to an Evansville Police Department incident report.

Police said an unidentified motorist, seeing 51-year-old Arthur Lucas trying to fight off the two brown and tan dogs, pulled up near Gum and Elliott streets and instructed Lucas to get into his SUV.

Lucas had bites on both hands and his lower right arm and sought medical treatment.

According to police, one dog was located on the front porch of a house in the 700 block of South Governor Street and taken to Animal Control for the standard 10-day quarantine to make sure it doesn't have rabies. The larger of two dogs was Tasered but got away.

Lucas said he will be going to Animal Control today to verify whether the captured dog was one of the two involved in the attack.
