FLIPS

middletown.bus.jpgPassengers of a private bus that flipped on its side southbound on the Garden State Parkway, watch as the bus is pulled upright from the trees along the parkway. A chartered bus, carrying about 35 people headed south to Lakewood, ran off the Garden State Parkway this morning, causing minor injuries and creating a mess for rush-hour commuters. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

The story has NJ.com members sharing concerns about bus traffic on the Parkway. nostandstill posts:

First, thank God no one was killed. I hope those who sustained injuries heal quickly.

That said, I must say I'm not surprised to see yet another bus accident on the Parkway. The drivers of these monstrous machines actually try to keep up with the flow of traffic when most cars are doing 75 or 80 mph. Let's face it, that's WAY too fast for a large bus. Not only is it very easy to lose control of a bus at 75mph, but a vehicle that big, going that fast, cannot maneuver quickly enough to safely avoid accidents.

These buses need to stay in the right lane and do 65mph, period. No more risking 30 to 50 lives just so you can keep up with the cars and SUV's who do 75+ on the Parkway.
