SEATTLE -- A spokesman for Burlington Northern Santa Fe says a teenager was struck by a Sound Transit commuter train Tuesday evening, but that the girl did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

Spokesman Gus Melonas says that about 5:15 p.m. Tuesday a northbound Sound Transit Sounder commuter train hit a girl on the rail line next to Carkeek Park, just north of Seattle. He says the train was going about 8 mph after using the emergency break.

Melonas says Burlington Northern Santa Fe security think she was part of a group of teenagers who had been reported to have been throwing rocks at trains. Security reached three of the teenagers and they seemed to be intoxicated.

Melonas says the girl was loaded up to the train and taken to Edmonds for treatment. She was later transported to Harborview Medical Center. He says her injuries are none-life threatening.

The train lines were temporarily closed after the incident.
