ZIMBABWE

HARARE – Sixteen people were killed and three others were seriously injured when a military bus was involved in a head-on collision with a taxi van about 45 kilometres north-east of here on Tuesday night.
Fourteen others were injured slightly. The taxi van driver died in the collision and had apparently tried to over-take two slow-moving vehicles.
Bus crashes are common in Zimbabwe because of a combination of poorly maintained vehicles, badly pot-holed roads and corrupt police officers who allow the buses on the roads after money changes hands.
