DENVER (AP) ― A 12-year-old boy who was run over by a school bus he was chasing after missing it has undergone surgery for injuries to his leg and hip.
Authorities say the boy was in critical condition after the accident just before 9 a.m. Friday. The boy was identified as Diego Lemos, a fifth-grader at Westgate Elementary in Jefferson County.
Denver police spokesman Lt. Matt Murray says the boy was running alongside the bus and pounding on it to get the driver's attention when he fell and was run over. A mother whose son takes the same bus says she heard screams after the bus stopped.
