Police have issued this photo of a cyclist they believe forced a bus to brake so sharply a 78-year-old passenger died when she fell over.

The rider appeared to pull out in front of a bus in Manchester city centre yesterday, causing the driver to slam on the brakes.

The sudden movement caused Louie Palmer, who had been standing on the lower deck of the vehicle, to lurch forward.

She suffered a serious neck injury and died shortly afterwards.

Police are appealing for information about the incident at 10.15am on Friday.

Traffic officer PC Pete Phillips said: "The bus driver had to take evasive action to avoid the bike and we want to speak to the cyclist to help us piece together what happened.

"A bus passenger has died and I just want to speak to the person on the bike to get their version of events."

Anyone who thinks they know the cyclist or has any information about the incident should call police on 0161 856 7773.
