Dhaka, Bangladesh – A speeding bus plunged off a bridge after slamming into another bus, killing 11 people and injuring 32 others Sunday in eastern Bangladesh.
Eight people died at the scene while three others succumbed to their injuries on the way to a local hospital, the United News of Bangladesh agency reported.
The 32 injured were hospitalised, and fire fighters salvaged the bus from waist-deep waters.
The accident occurred in Narsingdi district, 25 miles (40 kilometres) east of the capital Dhaka.
Officials could not be immediately reached for comment.
About 4,000 people die each year in road accidents in Bangladesh mainly because of lax traffic rules and poor driving conditions. – Sapa-AP
