Double decker loses its roof

This double-decker bus slammed into an overhanging tree branch along Bukit Timah Road and four passengers suffered injuries. STOMPer Rois wonders if the accident could have been avoided if the driver was more alert.

In the STOMPer's email:

"What was the driver doing at the time of the accident?

"The driver should have spotted the low-hanging branch in the bus' path.

"Was the driver distracted or driving too fast to notice the branch?"

Another STOMPer Rachel was at the accident scene, and told us in an email today (May 13):

"An extraordinary accident saw the roof sliced clean off the top of a double-decker bus in Singapore.

"The SBS Transit double-decker bus (Service 174, SBS7499A) was travelling along Bukit Timah Road on the afternoon of May 12 when it collided with an overhanging tree branch."

STOMP contacted the Police and the spokesperson said:

"Police received a call yesterday at about 4.20pm informing us about a fallen tree branch found on a public bus along Bukit Timah Road towards Upper Bukit Timah Road after Sixth Avenue.

"A total of four passengers suffered injuries and were conveyed conscious to NUH.

"Police investigations are ongoing."
