EDISON — A school bus heading to Herbert Hoover Middle School drove off Route 1 and down a slope in Edison, injuring 17 students and the bus driver.
None of the injuries appear life-threatening, but the bus driver was taken out on a back board, Lt. Don Merker said.
The accident occurred about 8:15 a.m. as the bus was traveling north on Route 1 to the Herbert Hoover Middle School on Hoover Ave. The bus went off the road, over a curb, and down a ditch.
Students were taken to area hospitals.
Police were investigating unconfirmed reports that the driver was cut off
