Srinagar, India (CNN) -- A bus accident in a mountainous region of Indian-administered Kashmir left at least 17 passengers and 50 others injured Friday morning, police said.
The bus rolled down several hundred feet into a steep gorge near Bidda, a village 95 kilometers (almost 60 miles) north of the city of Jammu.
"Fifty passengers who were injured in the accident were evacuated to hospital. Thirteen critically-wounded passengers were airlifted to Jammu for specialized treatment," said Anand Jain, police chief in the district of Reasi.
The bodies have been recovered from the accident site and will be handed over to their next-of-kin after the formalities are completed, Jain said.
Road accidents are common in Kashmir mainly because of reckless driving, overloading and poor road conditions.
