Driver extricated after school bus crashes into utility pole in Blue Springs

Tow workers started cleaning up parts of a school bus and the traffic standard it struck Thursday morning at U.S. 40 and Route AA in Blue Springs.

A school bus crashed into a utility pole in Blue Springs this morning, authorities said, injuring the driver and five students on board.

The driver, who had to be extricated, was taken to a hospital, Blue Springs police said. The driver reportedly had a leg injury.

The students also were taken to hospitals for treatment of cuts and scrapes.

The crash occurred about 7:05 a.m. at Missouri AA and U.S. 40 and remains under investigation, Detective Troy Pharr said.

The bus was headed to Blue Springs South High School, said Leslie Evans, a spokeswoman for the Blue Springs School District.
