STABBED TO DEATH

RIALTO, Calif.—Police have arrested a man suspected of stabbing a San Bernardino County public transit bus driver to death.

Police say 48-year-old Lawrence Kester was stabbed by a passenger Friday morning as the bus reached a busy intersection in Rialto. Kester lost control of the bus and crashed into a tree.

Rialto police Lt. Joe Cirilo says the suspect, Robert Johnson, ran into a Bank of America after fleeing the bus, threw the knife down and then ran into a Stater Bros. supermarket where he was held by store employees until police arrived.

Police say Kester was stabbed multiple times in the upper torso. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Cirilo says Kester leaves behind a wife and six children.

The motive for the attack is under investigation.
