A 12-year-old boy who got caught under the wheel of a school bus he was trying to catch on Friday remained in critical condition Saturday, authorities said.
Diego Lemos was taken to surgery to repair serious injuries to his pelvis, leg and foot on Friday, according to Julie Lonborg, spokeswoman for Swedish Medical Center.
The Westgate Elementary School fifth-grader remains in the hospital's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
The accident happened about 8:50 a.m. on the West Hampden Avenue Frontage Road near South Depew Street. Lemos pounded on the back of the bus and then fell underneath the rear wheel.
No decision has yet been made whether any tickets or charges will be issued against the 56-year-old bus driver, whose identity has not been released, said Lt. Matt Murray, spokesman for the Denver Polic
