A 15-year-old teenage boy admitted to releasing pepper spray in a school bus, sickening the driver and more than a dozen Patriot High School students returning home Friday afternoon, Riverside County sheriff's officials said.
The driver was able to safely pull the bus over in an unincorporated neighborhood south of Fontana at Mission Boulevard and Byrne Road after she began having problems breathing and began tearing up, the sheriff's department said.
The driver and 15 of the 36 students on the bus were treated by paramedics for pepper spray exposure. No one was seriously hurt.
Investigators found that the 15-year-old boy had a pepper spray container, and he was arrested after he told authorities that he had discharged the canister while horsing around.
The bus later continued its route. The bus was transporting students home from Patriot High School in the Jurupa Unified School District.
