Collision with bus kills St. Mary's woman

A woman who apparently pulled her car in front of a bus Tuesday evening in St. Mary's County was killed, county sheriff's officials said Wednesday.

The victim was identified as Joan Mattingly Dean, 75, of Hollywood, Md. The crash occurred about 6:24 p.m. on Three Notch Road at the intersection with Mervell Dean Road in Hollywood, the sheriff's office said.

Investigators believe Dean, driving a 2008 Chevrolet Impala, was turning right onto Three Notch from Mervell Dean Road near the Wildewood Shopping Center when her car was hit by a 2004 MCI Fleet Bus heading north on Three Notch.

Dean was taken to St. Mary's Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the bus, Angela D. Adams, 41, of Laurel, was also taken to the hospital for unspecified injuries. No one else was on the bus, the sheriff's office said.

Investigators do not believe speed or alcohol were involved in the crash, which is still under investigation.
