A Utah Transit Authority maintenance worker is on leave while the agency investigates a car crash he caused in Salt Lake City.
The worker was in a UTA pickup on his way to a collision between a commuter train and a car Friday. At 1300 East and 500 South, the worker ran a red light and crashed into a small Nissan, according to Salt Lake City police. The drivers had to be taken to hospitals.
Police cited the worker for not having a valid driver license as well as for running the red light and for negligence in the collision, said UTA spokesman Gerry Carpenter.
Carpenter said UTA will wait for results of the police investigation and a UTA investigation, but discipline could include firing.
The collision between the train and the car was near South Campus Drive and 1725 East. In that case, the passenger car turned in front of the train, Carpenter said. The car driver suffered minor injuries.
