Twenty people died and more than 15 were seriously injured when their bus overturned on the N1 highway between De Doorns and Touws River in the Western Cape on Wednesday, the Department of Community Safety has said.
Spokesman Xenophone Wentzel said traffic officers responded to the accident scene just before 6am.
"A total of 20 (people) were certified dead on the scene, more than 15 were seriously injured and were being transported to various hospitals by ambulances and helicopters," he said.
Wentzel said it was not clear what had caused the accident, but it seemed as if the driver lost control of the vehicle causing it overturn. -
